About this search

Hire Haus is running this search confidentially on behalf of our Client. We'll name the organization on our first call — we're keeping it off the open web for reasons that will make sense once you hear who it is.

What we can tell you: it's a well-established, profitable investment platform managing billions on behalf of philanthropists, families, and institutions. Registered investment adviser. Backed by a board that has funded a serious multi-year technology plan. Not a startup, not a turnaround.

The role

They're hiring their first in-house technology leader.

This is a rare combination: a greenfield technical mandate, serving an established book of clients, at an organization that is already profitable. You are not searching for product-market fit. You are building the system that a proven business has outgrown.

Here's the honest state of things. They grew by buying the best available tool for each job. That worked, and it left them with a stack of point-to-point integrations, clients logging into several separate portals with several separate logins, management reporting assembled by hand, and an investment team processing documents and drafting memos manually at a volume that no longer makes sense.

The capital moving through this platform funds real-world outcomes. Better technology here means more capital reaching that work, faster.

The mandate, in three parts:

  1. Consolidate the architecture. Move from point-to-point sprawl to a single source of truth, and give clients one front door instead of several. Clients are already asking for it.

  2. Roll out AI where it pays. Investment operations first — document ingestion, data extraction, memo drafting. There are already people working on this; you'll give them a platform and a unified direction.

  3. Productize the data. Build the tech-enabled offerings that turn proprietary research into new lines of business.

You'll do this as a player-coach. As the first in-house technology hire, you'll build the team you eventually lead — starting small, with delivery partners alongside you, growing it as the work earns it. If you want to inherit thirty engineers, this isn't that role. If you want to decide what gets built and by whom, from a blank sheet, with a profitable business behind you, it is.

One thing to be clear about: this is a registered investment adviser handling other people's capital. They move deliberately. The discipline is shipping meaningfully while respecting what the regulatory environment actually requires — a design problem, not a constraint on ambition.

What you'll own

  • Technology and product strategy as one of the central pillars of the company's multi-year plan, in partnership with the CEO and leadership team.

  • The target architecture and the sequence to get there — what gets consolidated, what stays best-of-breed, and in what order.

  • Build-versus-buy decisions across investment research, reporting, financial performance tooling and investment accounting — defended on benefit, cost, speed and risk.

  • The product function — strategy, roadmap, discovery, prioritization, MVP definition. This is a technology and product leadership seat; product is not a secondary responsibility.

  • Large systems implementation, end to end — carrying stakeholders with you while remaining the single person accountable for delivery.

  • AI adoption across the platform, with measurable reduction in manual processing time.

  • New tech-enabled products built on proprietary research.

  • The team — its shape, levels and budget. Hire the first engineers; decide what stays in-house and what belongs with delivery partners.

  • The board relationship — present technology strategy clearly enough that it earns support and funding.

What you bring

  • 12+ years across engineering leadership and product management, including ownership of a client-facing platform at scale.

  • Investment technology experience — required. Wealth management, private markets, fund administration, investment research, trading or custody. The learning curve on the investment side is steep enough that this role can't make meaningful progress without it.

  • A large systems implementation you led end to end — accountable for delivery on a consolidation or replatforming, not one voice among many.

  • Product leadership, not product literacy. You've owned a roadmap and made real prioritization calls under real constraints.

  • AI rollout in a production context, ideally somewhere the regulatory environment made it harder.

  • A track record building a technical team from a small base, including decisions about what to outsource.

  • A real philosophy on leading distributed teams. This role is remote, across several US time zones, with occasional travel for in-person team meetings.

Compensation

  • Base: $280,000 – $325,000, dependent on experience and location

  • Incentive compensation, 401(k), generous time off, comprehensive health and wellness coverage, professional development funding, paid family and parental leave

  • As a nonprofit, the organization does not grant stock
